Salzburgland

Austria's lakelands can be a little like the crown jewels - "you can see - but not touch". Access to the shores is limited and yet from a distance become a landscape artist's dream!

Instead we have looked at less expensive and higher quality hotels in tranquil villages between the lakes and of Fuschlsee and Wolfgangsee yet have direct access to the unknown Hintersee lake and valley area.

Also on offer is an inexpensive pension in a charming position directly above the shores of Lake Attersee

IMPULS HOTEL

This luxury family run hotel is located in a quiet situation yet only walking distance from the centre of Bad Hofgastein in the centre of the Tyrol region of Austria (circa 90km north of Villach).

A superb choice for couples and families alike with its outdoor and indoor swimming pools - pleasant gardens, and for fitness there is a gym, a steam room and sauna area. Whilst for the ladies there are cosmetic treatments which include several forms of therapy.

Very comfortable rooms - all of which have en-suite bathrooms complete with hairdryers, the rooms have cable TV and in some rooms there are CD players and a mini bar. Most of the rooms are with balcony.

There is an excellant restaurant which offers a superb breakfast buffet with hot and cold dishes, four course dinners and a daily salad buffet.

If playing Golf there is a 25% reduction from the town's 18 hole course. Fishing in the nearby river.

Special offer for families: We offer Large one bedroomed apartments which have over 50 sq yards of floor area; They contain a living room with a double sofa bed,seperate double bedroom, bathroom with bath Shower WC. Extras include radio, wall safe and TV. For families staying with two children under 13 years the children are free of charge and enjoy a full breakfast as long as there are two adults per apartment.

Standard double rooms are large having some 20 sq yards of floor area all with balcony, TV, wall safe and TC

De Luxe Alpine rooms - these are 50% larger than standard rooms - all have south facing balconies and a living area with easy chairs.

A large garage is available (5 euros per 24 hours). Local tourist tax is payable a 1.85 euros per adult/under 15 years free. Children under 13 years are free when sharing with two adults - 13-15 years pay 50%.

Hotel Badhaus

A four star hotel located just 2km from the town of Zell am See in the region of Salzburg (the city beings 68km north).

A four star hotel with indoor pool, sauna, and steam room. All rooms of course have en suite, cable TV, telephone and radio and rates are based on half board with full breakfast buffet and a four course dinner in the evening- one a week a rustic evening buffet.

Special offers: 7 nights price of 6 from 17 May to 28 June and from 30 August to 27 September. Children are free under 11 years in parents room - even getting 30% reduction when in own room.

APARTMENT VORDERLENGAU

Located in a small hamlet just ourside Hinterglemm (3km) in the Salztburg region just outside this popular resort some 15km from the lake of Zell am See and near to Saalbach and about 65km from Salzburg.

In a lovely alpine location - just 100 metres walk from a restaurant and 3km drive for shops - there is a public swimming pool at 4km. This typical Austrian chalet contains two apartments and the larger, with some 85 sq metres of floor area, contains a large living room with colour TV telephone, kitchenette with 4 hotplates, dishwasher, coffee machine & toaster. One full bathroom and a second bathroom with shower & WC. Three bedrooms- one double, one twin and one with a double sofa bed and a single bed.

Extras:
- Sauna at 5 euros per hour, bed linen and bath towels supplied.
- Table Tennis

Corinthia Austria

Being just one of nine warm water and shallow lakes Klopeinersee is buzzing with activities in summer with pubs, discos and cafes along its pedestrian promenades - in complete Contrast nearby Turnersee is quiet and as tranquil as possible.

So the area represents everything for all the family - especially if you have restless teenagers and parents craving some peace and quiet!

However as far as accommodation is concerned we have taken the quiet option and obtained some apartments and family pensions in tranquil settings a few kms from the lakes. The area being some 20km east of Klagenfurt and the same from the border with Slovenia.

All the accommodation offers private access to lake beaches and sunbathing lawns at no charge to clients.

It seems unbelievable that the lake water is the same temperature as the average swimming pool but is so clear the local authorities state it is drinkable too! There are small sandy beaches - quite Safe for Small children under Supervision, and yet deep enough for serious Swimming for strong Swimmers.

Our favourite is Turnersee which has a camping Site and just one hotel on its Shores. Surrounded by the Alps and with temperatures in summer hitting the high 80's who wants the seaside?

Best time to visit is before 10 July and after 20 August when the crowds have disappeared and you can have Turnersee to yourself.

Klopeinersee remains busy out of season but on its shores are many quiet bathing sites plus walking and bike paths.

AXHNER APARTMENTS

A lovely former water mill which the owners have converted to a lovely home and used the original stables to convert to two superb apartments. Situated in a lovely spot by the river which has walking paths along its banks. The owners have bicyles available for each apartment, a barn in which to play table tennis, and they also have free access to the bathing beaches on both lakes.

Apartment 1 for 4/5Lots of space (85 sq metres) in this first floor flat which has a good sized kitchen with full cooker, 4 hot plates. One bathroom which includes awashing machine, a large shower unit and WC.

Two double bedrooms - separate sofabed. Small living room with 3 piece suite and cable TV. Cot possible.

Apartment 2 for 4/5

An even larger first floor unit having stairs entrance from garage, (which takes 4 cars) onto large landing off which is a huge living room with 3 piece suite. Separate kitchen with full cooker and 4 hot rings. Two bedrooms - one double bed and one twin room. Sofa bed in lounge.

Two detached bungalows at Unterberg some 600 metres from the lake - each one with some 60 so yards of floor area with lawned gardens.

Each one has a spacious living room with dining area, a satellite TV and kitchenette (with three hot plates, fridge and coffee maker).

Type A

Two bedrooms one with double bed and the other with a double and a cot. Bathroom with shower WC.

Type B

As Type A but one bedroom has three single beds and the second bedroom has a double bed.

Bed linen and towels are provided.

BUNGALOW OLIP SLEEPS 4/5

PENSION OLIP (WITH POOL)

A very quiet location overlooking meadows for this hotel pension which has some spacious gardens containing an average sized heated swimming pool.

The spacious rooms have new furniture, and complete with small ensuite bathrooms with shower and WC.

Downstairs huge breakfast room - outside a terrace with large lawns leading to the pool. In the cellar is a "honesty" bar which allows you to take drinks from the bar and pay into a money box - also a barbecue style grill set into a huge fireplace.

PENSION UNTERBURG

Very quiet rural location overlooking fields but with its own free beach on the Lake Klopensee just 3km distance.

Pleasant views from the large lawned gardens for sun bathing or enjoying a drink while admiring the distant mountains. Table tennis is free to guests.

The rooms are spacious often having a sofa as well as large double bed. The jocular lady owner is friendly and offers local advice for excursions and nearby restaurants.

All the bedrooms have ensuite shower/WC and balconies - buffet breakfast is included in the price.
