The Black Forest must be Germany's most scenic region. Every town & village seems to have a river or stream running past pretty half timbered houses - each neighbour trying to out do the other with large balconies overflowing with hanging bright red geraniums. In every direction are the dark green pine woods which give the region its unique name.

Walking paths are everywhere - well signposted and well maintained (UK please copy!) every small town and large village has a indoor or outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts.

Eating out costs are very reasonable - portions are over generous and a two course meal with a beer or two will not exceed £10 a head in many of the traditional Gasthofs.

The area is only 500 miles drive from the channel ports along toll tree Motorways. A "must see" for the kids is Europa Park a Disney style theme park near Freiburg.

The properties on this page are very spacious, high quality and in some of the most attractive villages in the region. Excursions all within 80km include the Rhine Falls and the Swiss border, Colmar and Strasbourg in French Alsace and Lake Constance.

House in the village of Ofingen REF BF114 - Haus Maier for 6 - Ofingen

This modern semi detached house is located in a quiet sunny position in the village of Ofingen near to Bad Durrheim in the south east corner of the Black Forest.
Contains a living room – easy chairs and colour TV French windows onto a large sunny terrace. Separate well-fitted kitchen. Downstairs bathroom with shower, WC.
On the top floor are three bedrooms – one double and two twins – it is possible to also obtain two folding beds for which the charge is €8 Euros per day.

Bed linen and towels are included into the rental.

Extra costs: Water and electricity are by meter and the average cost is about £30 per week. Central heating if required is also charged if used.

Tourist tax. This can only be paid locally and the rate in was 1 euro per adult per day



Apartment Sabine, Hornberg (sleeps 4)

A rustic farmhouse in the hills overlooking the Black Forest in the hamlet of Niederwasser about 5km from the bustling market town of Hornberg in the centre of the region.

Apartment on the first floor is spacious (70 sq metres) and offers a living room with satellite TV, radio and easy chairs. Fully fitted kitchenette. Two bedrooms (twin mattresses on a double base) with French windows which lead on to a balcony. Nice bathroom with bath, WC and washbasin. Own parking space.

Bed linen and hand towels are supplied and are included in the rental. Tourist tax may have to be paid to the owners. Hornberg is a pretty country town with a castle and former Chateau looking down on the town.

Reasonable shopping – 2 supermarkets and great walking possibilities.

A lovely detached house in forest surroundings just outside the town of Hornberg - yet only metres away from walking paths and about 3km from shops and a restaurant.

Newly constructed with some 85 square yards of living area the chalet has on the raised ground floor a large living room with TV and sliding windows which open onto a sunny balcony with garden furniture. There is a separate fully fitted kitchen with dining area. A second WC.

Upstairs: two double bedrooms which share one large balcony and one children's room with bunk beds One bathroom with bath, shower and WC.

Prices explained: The 10 days per person column indicates a price per person for a 10 day holiday including return ferry crossing, 2 en route hotel stops with breakfast and 7 nights in your property. The black reverse figure shows the weekly rental cost – THIS IS PER PROPERTY PER WEEK, NOT PER PERSON.

Bed linen: Most owners provide this and it is included in the cost. However, final cleaning charges of around £30 and local tourist tax are not, and you may well be asked to pay these on the spot.

Ref BF407 charges €8.50 per person for bed linen and towels, energy costs as per tariff meter and final cleaning £35.

Ferry Supplement: The above per person prices including the ferry are for outward travel Sunday to Thursday, inward travel Monday to Friday. There is a supplement for travel out or back on the weekends as follows:

Tucked away in a quiet green valley in the hamlet of Frischnau about 5km from the village of Biederbach hosts several pub restaurants and shops. The area is about 25km south east of Lahr and 50km from Strasbourg.

The advantage of staying at the Adlar is that you have the freedom of self-catering yet with the extra facilities on tap that includes a restaurant, a terrace bar and a bread delivery service. Extra attractions include table tennis, billiards and even a sun bed solarium.

The hotel dates back to 1790 and was originally a flourmill. Adjacent to the hotel is a separate new building very much in the same style, which offers four apartments with large balconies and stunning views.

Located in the village of Gundelwangen, which is almost equal distance from Tittisee Lake and Bonndorf, which offers choice of shopping and eateries.

This is a great location for visiting the lakes and the Feldberg Mountains and the delightful city of Freiburg all with 30 minutes drive.

One of two apartments, which are on the top floor of this single story building-so, some of the rooms have sloping ceilings and attic style windows.

Living room/kitchen with hot plates, oven and extractor. There is a large balcony the width of the apartment. One bathroom with shower and WC. Two bedrooms each with a double bed and there is an additional bedroom with three single beds and a bathroom ensuite. The entrance to this room is outside the apartment.

As the name suggests this large detached house has a view of the Swiss Alps from its large panoramic balcony on the first floor. Situated amidst large mature gardens of over 6000 sq metres the property is ideal for excursions to the rugged

Hills of the south Black Forest and being only 26km from Bad Sachingen and the Rhine water falls. The grounds have a shallow spring feeding a large pond and parents need to take caution over young children. The house has some extra facilities, which includes table tennis, a barbeque area, and footpaths pass the edge of the grounds. There is also a gold course (18 holes) only 2km distance. A swimming pool (payable) along with shops and restaurants all within 3km.

The house structure is reversed to the norm with the main living area on the top floor and this contains a specious living room leading onto a large

Balcony with panoramic views, Separate kitchen having four hot plates oven etc.There is one bedroom with a double bed. Bathroom with shower and WC.

The area around this detached house offers spectacular uplands scenery having pine forests criss-crossed with footpaths leading along clear streams to tiny picturesque villages and often passing an isolated Inn or two.

However if you prefer to drive than walk then the lovely capital of the Black Forest which is Freiburg is just 30km away, the lake of Titisee is less than 18km away along with Furtwengen, which is, known locally as the Cuckoo clock town.

Yet the property is only four minutes drive by car from the centre of St Margen which offers restaurants and some shopping.

Apartment I (sleeps 4/5)

Located on the top floor of this single story building these are very modern new units they do however have sloping ceilings and some of the rooms have attic style opening windows.

They are very well furnished with easy chairs and the advantage there is a large balcony running the width of the apartment, which offers panoramic views and great for eating outside. The living room has wood clad ceilings, Satellite-TV. The tiny but separate kitchen is practical with oven four hot rings etc. The two bedrooms each have a 6ft 6inch base on which are two separate mattresses and separate duvets. which have wood panelled ceilings.

A sofa bed in the lounge area can sleep a fifth person if required.

Eating Area

Apartment II (sleeps 3-4)

Located on the top floor and some of the rooms have sloping ceilings and contains a living room with easy chairs. Separate compact kitchen having four hot plates oven etc. Two bedrooms each with twin 3 foot wide mattresses on a six foot base. Bathroom with shower/WC. Large balcony runs the width of the apartment.

Pension B&B rooms.

There are just three double bedrooms all of which have en suite bathrooms and include breakfast at a remarkable low £17 per person per night - very good value.

A children’s extra bed is available on demand.
