New Years resolutions - Disneyland Paris

There may still be the New Years Eve party and the hangover, but we all want to start the New Year full of vigour and new hope, full of thoughts of what we want to achieve in the next year.

With this in mind one way to improve our quality of life is to spend more time with those we love and what nicer way to spend time with our families than within the magic of Disneyland Paris.

We all know money is tight after Christmas however at Disneyland Paris they are working their magic to make a trip as affordable as possible with offers such as Kids under 12 stay play and travel for free from 4th January to 2 April 09, free nights and days offer and early booking discounts for if your looking to travel later in the year.

The quality family time can begin right at the planning stage deciding where you will stay and any extras you may decide to include, perhaps agree on one special treat but can have loads of fun exploring what all the options are; you could even ask older children to choose their favourite and hold a debate so they get to say why they should get their choice. Once booked you can have fun deciding which rides and shows you would like to see, the children can look for their favourite characters on the internet, in books and magazines; older children could plan a route through the parks so no one misses their favourite ride.

Don’t forget to take a camera to record all the special moments whilst you are there, meeting the characters sharing the fun.

Finally on your return you could make a scrapbook or a poster using photos, tickets etc. and ask the children to write about their experiences.

As you can see one short trip to Disneyland Paris can create a lot of magical family time.

So go on have a magical New Year!!

Dining at Disneyland Paris

The largest expense on our last Disneyland Paris trip was definitely the food bill, we do like good food but even so, we didn’t push the boat out and still managed to blow our budget.

Breakfast at the Dream Castle Disneyland Paris Hotel was very good, an excellent range of hot and cold food, cereals, rolls and even English tea, meaning we wouldn’t probably be hungry until mid afternoon. They also offered tasty bar snacks in the afternoon and evening, which could be complimented with a glass of wine, served in a large tulip glass, so much better than the English thick glasses of house red.

Anyway we started to look for somewhere to have a snack in the warmth with a seat around 3pm…easier said than done, it seemed everyone else also had the same idea. In the end we decided on the Backlot express in the Disney studios this being the largest restaurant we hoped we might get a seat. My daughter and I set off to look for a table whilst my husband queued for food, as luck has it one became available after 15 minutes of loitering just as my husband appeared with the food. I am not a fan of burgers but these were surprisingly good but at 40 euros for 3 burgers chips and drinks so they should be.

The most enjoyable meal during our stay was at the Rain forest café in the Disney Village, we had let our daughter choice the restaurant (provided it wasn’t a burger bar) and she made an excellent choice. The restaurant is set as a Rainforest (no surprise there) with moving animals and tropical storms the atmosphere is magical. The service was excellent and the food first-rate.

My daughter had a wonderful sweet, her favourite Ben and Jerry’s fish food ice-cream, topped with cream and finished off with a puff pastry fish which she thought was so cute she named him “Geoffrey” and refused to eat him.

Based on my experience I would recommend anyone travelling on a budget to purchase the half board vouchers as you save 15% when purchasing them prior to travel and you know how much you are spending.

Lastly a cautionary tale…. on the last day we went into Paris it was so cold we stopped in a café bar for a drink and a warm. My husband quite proud of his new found French vocabulary asked for un café, un chocolat et une grande bière, a few minutes later the waiter reappeared, much to our amusement carrying a litre of beer… perhaps I should give him French lessons for Christmas.

Extra Magic at Disneyland Paris

When travelling to Disneyland Paris there are a number of extras you can take advantage of, some of which you may not be aware of, so here are some tips…

Before you even travel to Disneyland Paris there are several offers you can take advantage of depending on your date of travel including 20% off, free extra nights and children stay, play and travel for free.

Plus there is so much more. Did you know if you stay in one of the Disneyland Paris hotels you could have two extra hours in the park each day? From 8 am to 10am selected parts of the park open just for guests staying in the Disney hotels so you can access rides before the big queues this even includes some of the most popular rides. If you are a late riser don’t despair some of the most popular rides have fast pass options so you can take a ticket and return at a given time so you can fit in even more fun.

In addition if you are tempted to buy from the vast array of gifts in the Disneyland Paris shops located in the parks you can have them sent to your hotel for collection later so no one misses the ride because they have to hold the parcels.

Also when staying in a Disneyland Paris hotel there is a chance to mingle with the stars as they offer meet and greet opportunities at specified times.

For the adults there is free entry at Hurricanes disco in the Disney Village. These are all free of course but there are also some great reductions to take advantage of, such as 15% saving on half board options and Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show, having paid the prices in the Disney parks I would certainly recommend this offer.

Then there are the extras designed just to make your stay very special like character meals, birthday treats, excursions and much more if you would like more information we at Autoplan holidays are happy to help plan your trip to make it as magical for you as possible.

Disneyland Paris – Star Spotting

At Disneyland Paris wandering down Main Street soon brings you face to face with many famous faces.

However if you or your children have a particular favourite it is advisable to pick up a programme when entering the park gates, as depending on the day and time, there are autograph signings and photo opportunities at designated spots in the park. There are also “meet and greet” points throughout the parks. Minnie is always keen to show off her vast wardrobe and Sully from monsters Inc loves screaming children!!!!

The characters are usually at these points for about 20 minutes so get there early to avoid disappointment as the queues can get extremely long.

The parades are also a must. My particular favourite is the Christmas parade on Main Street especially if you can get a position by the entrance gates, as you will be in for an extra pleasant surprise! For the finale I don’t want to give too much away but you’ll need a hanky…

The separate Disney studios offers a new show-One mischievous imp who is always ready for an audience is Stitch the naughty blue alien, in his new hilarious show the unruly extraterrestrial is in trouble yet again and this time he wants to involve you in his antics.

Prepare for a belly full of laughs as he tricks and teases his way through the performance but watch out you could be the star of the show. This is great entertainment for all ages.

Licensed to thrill at Disneyland Paris

Auto Plan's travel consultant Sheila Mottram decided to visit Disneyland Paris over October half term with her 12-year-old daughter and tried out some of the roller coaster rides - two of which are detailed below;

Rock & Roll Coaster:
With all the new thrill rides at Disneyland Paris the rock and roll rollercoaster is now often overlooked, but this means shorter queues and more rides and it is still awesome. I remember from a pervious visit that the first time I went on this ride just watching the launch from the queue made my stomach somersault and it just gets better.

At the start of ride the rock band Aerosmith sing of going off the rails and after the initial stretch of lighted track the sudden darkness and a heart-stopping plunge makes it feel you are really falling through the air. The launch is also amazing Steve Tyler screams "3-2-1" in your ear while you are pulled back and blast off and the g force of this three minute ride is amazing. With Aerosmith’s hard throbbing music pulsating through the headrest the atmosphere is electric, a must for all rock fans.

Crush's Coaster:
If you don't mind queuing the Crush’s coaster is worth the wait (you can use fast pass but it wasn’t working when I went) as our friendly turtle passes under the waves chased by a shark - "I was expecting a almost gentle ride, how wrong I could be - it starts slow but then goes into a wild chase spinning into the dark tunnel of the waves-and becomes very, very wild!"

Great fun!! The scenery is also superb and a thrill-seekers paradise.

Sport and Spa

On my recent trip to Disneyland Paris, on passing the golf course, my disgruntled husband asked why I didn’t mention they had a golf course. The truth is (apart from becoming a golf widow for the week) I had simply forgot it was there…. So this got me thinking about all the other treats on offer for the grown ups longing for a little time to wind down.

Disney golf

Situated just a few kilometres from Disney is ‘Disney golf’ comprising of 3, nine hole golf courses. Nestling between trees, rocks, streams and a waterfall the combination of the 3 courses brings variety to your game and at the end of your round you can enjoy another round in the clubhouse.

Tennis

For the energetic there are two tennis courts situated at the Hotel New York open to anyone staying in a Disney hotel.

Ice rink

Also on offer to those staying in Disney hotels is an outdoor skating rink situated at the Hotel New York and open for the winter season it gives the essence of a real New York winter.
Spa.

Or for the ultimate in  “me” time treats, why not try one of the many health clubs offered by several hotels, otherwise for that ultimate indulgence try a facial at the Celestial Spa within the Disneyland hotel and the Dream Castle hotel boasts the Asian village Spa where you can spoil yourself with a Thai massage.

For those who are cost conscious you can always enjoy a little solitude for free on one of the many running tracks, which wind their ways between the hotels…. And who will take care of the children whilst you spoil yourselves? Disney of course, a babysitting service is available at many of the hotels ask for details at the concierge desk.
