Green Spain - stretching from Santander in the east to the edge of Galicia in the west, this gorgeous coastline of fine sand beaches with a fabulous range of seafood restaurants is one of our favourite places. Add in the attractions of the National Park the Picos de Europa and you have a heady cocktail of holiday pleasures. The area remains undaunted by mass tourism and a little grasp of Spanish is very useful. It is rare to see menus in other languages as is so common on the Costas. This Atlantic region of Spain is proud of its heritage and traditions. Even tourist literature will not necessarily be in English, so be a little patient as often only hotel reception staff, or the odd restaurant will speak your language.
The region is unbelievably beautiful with clean, sparkling seas, and totally unspoilt. Except that is for one resort, Laredo, which has some wonderful beaches, but is a resort disaster full of high rise apartments so beloved of property developers on the Spanish Costas. Apart from this, we are sure you will return to Green Spain.

Direct ferry aboard the 25,000 ton P&O Ferry Bilbao, it takes two days from Portsmouth to Bilbao. Not cheap but for a fortnight will be cheaper than fly drive and you have your own more comfortable vehicle.
Flights with Iberia from Heathrow to Bilbao, or via Madrid from Manchester and Birmingham but you will need a car see rentals below. For Flight prices see below.

Dunas de Liencres Apartments
Near Santander
A new development of hotel rooms and apartments, which are, located near to the village of Liencres some 9km from Santander and 4km to the beaches that run along the Parque Natural Dunes de Liencres.

Offering views of the Picos mountains and the fjord like inlet of the Ria de Pas this three star aparthotel is an ideal location being some 20 minutes drive from the medieval village of Santilliana del Mar and the resort of Suances.

Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, a café and several shops.There are a total of 140 bedrooms and apartments in this three star Aparthotel which takes reservations on any day arrival with a minimum stay of three nights except in from 01 July to 31 August (when minimum stay is six nights) and therefore of interest to clients arriving by ferry or those taking advantage of the lower cost RyanAir flights on midweek dates to Santander.
Type A - Sleeps 2/4
Well furnished and decorated but modest in size. These one bed roomed units have a living room with a double sofa bed if required. Kitchen with hot plates, fridge and microwave.
Separate bedroom with twin beds (some units have a mezzanine floor overlooking the lounge with twin beds. Bathroom with shower WC.

Type B - Sleeps 4/6
Larger units with lounge having a double sofa bed, kitchen with hot plates fridge freezer etc. Two bedrooms – one twin and one double.One bathroom with shower WC.
Each apartment has a parking place and all apartments have a terrace or balcony and have piped music facility.

![]() Apartments Regolleras Two low rise apartment buildings (no lift) directly on the beach (there is a road to cross) at the far end of Playa de Ris where there is more noise from the breaking waves than from any other distractions. Typical holiday apartment with simple but comfortable furniture. ![]() Each has a good sized balcony – some have two, although not all have a sea view. Good sized lounge with a single sofa bed – no other easy chairs except for the five garden style arm chairs on the terrace. Two good sized bedrooms – both with twin beds. Bathroom has a bath with a shower over, washbasin, WC and bidet. The kitchen is long and narrow – it has a massive fridge freezer, a washing machine, microwave oven and just two hot plates. Clearly the owners think that their clients will be eating out at the vast choice of restaurants in nearby Noja! Outside is a large courtyard between the two properties and at the rear is a good sized swimming pool and underneath the property is a secure garage along with a laundry coin operated washing machine and dryer.

During July/August one week and take over days are SATURDAYS. ![]() Type A sleeps 4/6: Complete with a good sized swimming pool with child safe area these modern apartments each contain two bedrooms-one with a double bed and the other with twin beds, a large living room with part sea views, TV and a kitchenette which offers a micro oven, four hot plates fridge freezer etc.There is a double sofa bed in the lounge if required. Balcony (small). Type B sleeps 4/6: Exactly as type A but on ground floor with a large terrace. |
![]() Apartments Playa La Arena A lovely beach about 5km from Isla in a long bay of fine sand – only drawback is that there is only the Hotel restaurant and one other nearby – bigger choice of restaurants and shopping are in Isla. These apartments are managed by the adjacent Hotel Campomar where you can take meals but the apartments have their own swimming pools – one for adults and one for children, as well as two tennis courts constructed over a garage parking area. ![]() The apartments are privately owned and are all in different decorating style. The three that we saw were almost too good for rental with flowing drapes and nets as well as elaborate furniture. As a rule each one has two separate bedrooms – one double bed and one with twin beds. A lounge dining room with a single sofa bed. Separate rather narrow kitchen all with a washing machine, four hot plates – some with ovens or microwaves, fridge freezer. Nice bathroom with bath with shower over and WC and washbasin. Outside they have a large but rather open terrace with table and chairs and serving hatch to the kitchen. Note: There are some unfinished apartment buildings nearby. The owners who lost their money have made a display of effigies which hang from the balconies to represent the builders who fled with all the owners payments made in full. If you feel this would be upsetting to young children then please do not book. However, it can be explained as a bizarre joke to children before they arrive. This display has been in existence for several years. At present nothing can be done to remove this display. |

Sleeping up to four adults and two children these spacious units offer two separate bedrooms - one double and one twin. One bathroom with bath Shower WC, living room with double sofa bed (if required) and easy chairs, colour TV and large terraces to enjoy the sea views.

Noja with pool (sleeps 4/5)
Two identical low rise buildings which have lifts to all floors.
Those that face inland have mountain views and for the Spring and Autumn most have the sun shining on the balconies – those sea facing have a beach view but also a view of the adjacent camp site – which is small and quiet. Almost direct access to the wide sandy beaches (it takes about a minute to walk)
Pleasant gardens surround a good sized non heated pool.
Apartment details:
These sleep 4/5 persons and have a reasonable sized lounge with French windows on to the sizeable balconies. Two bedrooms – each with twin beds and there is a single sofa bed in the lounge. Plastic armchairs on the terrace. The kitchens are very small having just two hot plates and a microwave – so simple meals a must! Large fridge for cool drinks though.

The nearest restaurants (choice of two) are 8km drive and the nearest bar is 1.5km away. The house has a large adjacent garden of our 4000 sq metres which contains a swimming pool (open 15/06 - 15/09) in the stepped landscaped garden. A new terraced house constructed in 2006 which is one of 27 houses built in three terraces with mountain views in the hamlet of Ojedo which is about 2km from Potes with a wide chice of bars,restaurants and shopping possibilities.

The house has a small garden both front and rear with some fantastic views of the Picos mountain range. It consists of a good sized lounge. Separate kitchen with hot plates,oven, microwave.

There are four bedrooms: two with double beds and one with twin beds.
Two bathrooms each with boxed shower WC and washbasin. The is a third WC located on the ground floor next to the rear garden entrance. Private garage. Gardens.
Extra facilities include a shared swimming pool which is available to all residents.

Very good quality apartments, well restored each having a kitchen with ceramic hot plates oven, washing machine, coffee-maker.Lovely living room with a feature fireplace and colour TV. Two bedrooms – one double and one twin bedded. Bathroom With shower WC and w/basin.

Casa el Covaju
Potes
In the delightful valleys of the Picos de Europa and about 8km from the main mountain town of Potes are this former farmhouse and recently constructed apartments.
The area provides enough for most lovers of mountains with Funta De and other walking possibilities and excursions but if you prefer a day on the beach this is 35km away but the winding road down will take a drive of 40 minutes to reach a beach.
The management who speak English offer a children’s activity day, one a week, there are escorted walking tours, cycling and track bikes (4 wheels) for hire for exploring the mountains, as well as pony trekking if you like life in the slow lane!

There is a small heated swimming pool (April - October) and a Jacuzzi.
They also have a restaurant which offers simple meals and a very convivial bar – not cheap but the style and activities offered is above average for the area.
Various Apartments and even several houses are available.
Type 2/3
Own entrance to a kitchenette with 2 hot plates, microwave and a washing machine. Lounge area with sofa bed for one and easy chairs. One double bedroom. Bathroom with shower, WC and washbasin.

Type 4/6
Apartments on the ground floor with a terrace and communal lawned garden or a first floor apartment with a balcony. Both have lovely mountain views.
Good sized living room, TV & telephone with a double sofa bed if required. Kitchenette with washing machine, four hot plates, microwave, coffee machine. One bedroom with a double bed and one twin bedroom. Bathroom with bath, WC and washbasin.
Type 8
Granite built house with a lovely lounge having a sofa and easy chairs and a wood burning stove. Kitchen/dining room with washing machine, four hot plates, microwave and coffee machine. Four bedrooms – one double and three twins. Two bathrooms and if you get fed up with your present company there is a TV, Compact Disc and video player – so take your own favourite films!
The grounds contain picnic tables and barbecuing is allowed.
