Italian Dolomites - This is possibly the most impressive range of mountains in Europe – quite different from the Alps – with massive slab sided falls of granite which are flat topped, and towards evening reflect the rays of the sun and turn rose pink.

There is also a fascinating recent history to the region. Until 1919, this mountain domain was part of Austria, in fact until that date, even part of Lake Garda was in Austria. At the end of the first World War, Italy was a member of the allies, and it was decided to punish Austria by annexing the whole area of the Sud Tyrol which was then promptly handed over to Italy. Even today, part of the region is still German speaking in the Alto Adige province. The towns and buildings still retain the architecture of the Hapsberg empire.

The gastronomic mix that comes from the location is one of Austrian cleanliness, a unique Austo - Italian cuisine and smooth light red wines from the Alto Adige area.

The best is yet to come. There are six National Parks in the region, and it’s ideal for those looking for relaxation in this enchanting area of valleys, superb mountain scenery and small lakes.

As you travel further south, the German language disappears and Italian dominates. There are a vast number of totally unspoilt valleys to explore by car or foot; one of the most dramatic is the Fassa Valley which leads in turn to the Alpe di Siuse and Vols where we offer Hotel Perwanger. Don’t take our word for it – do read up on a few guide books, and each one will confirm that this region is unique and a nature lovers paradise.

One last tip - do try to avoid the first few weeks of August. This is peak Italian family holiday time – and most of Italy, but especially the mountains, is swamped by Italians getting away from the city heat. Prices are at their peak and accommodation and restaurants are packed with amiable but noisy Italians on vacation.

Hotel Perwanger - Vols

Very attractive alpine Tyrol style hotel which we have offered for many years, and which has been recently improved with new bedrooms and apartments. Located high up in the Dolomites, yet situated on a plateau, which makes easy walking down to the nearby lake and Vols Village – which offers several attractive bars and restaurants.

There are breathtaking views of the mountains from every bedroom balcony, which are strewn with bright red geraniums. Lifts to all floors and all rooms have shower or bath and wc ensuite.

Downstairs offers a large lounge bar, a wood panelled restaurant and several guest lounges.

The English speaking owners are welcoming and happy to give hints on enjoying your stay. Very good wine list.

Outside is a large swimming pool, and in addition – a sauna, a fitness room, table tennis, a bowling alley, as well as lawned gardens with sun loungers and garden furniture.

Apartments for 2/3, Perwanger

Newly constructed, spacious and luxurious, these apartments have 45 sq metres of floor space, and each provides a living room with a double sofa bed, easy chairs and a Tyrol style dining area. A fully equipped kitchenette with hot plates, but no oven.

One separate bedroom with double bed, and a luxury bathroom with bath and shower over, washbasin and WC. Each one has a balcony, TV and telephone.

Prices are based on two persons - an extra person is £10 per night. Very comfortable accommodation with the advantage of full hotel service if required.

VILLA DANIELA, Pontedilegno

The Residences “VILLA DANIELA” are located in the most exclusive and panoramic spot of Pontedilegno; the building is composed by two chalets of eight apartments each, which rise on three flats and a mezzanine floor.

All the apartments can be reached by lift and have the following characteristics:

• Three-room apartment (about 60 s-m), composed by a large living room with sofa bed, kitchenette, double bedroom, second bedroom with bunk bed, bathroom with shower, balcony.

Each flat is furnished with taste and equipped with all conveniences, it is also provided with fireplace, TV and DVD player, independent heating, dishwasher, microwave.

Total beds 6.

• Four-room apartment (about 100 s-m), which rises on three floors, third floor and mezzanine floor.

Comprises: first floor with large living room and kitchenette, two sofas (one of them can get a double bed), fireplace, TV and DVD player, bathroom and balcony; mezzanine floor with two double rooms, third bedroom and bathroom.

The apartments will be available starting from 5:00 pm of the arrival day and should be left before 10:00 am of the departure day. Weekly stays from Sunday to Sunday Extra to be paid on the spot: • Consumption: electricity and heating three-room-flat € 40,00, four-room-flat € 50,00. • Final cleaning: three-room-flat € 50,00, four-room-flat € 80,00 apart from the kitchenette. • Sheets and towels: rental € 18,00 per person. • Deposit: three-room-flat € 200,00, four-room-flat € 300,00 to be paid at the arrival day. Val di Fiemme

This splendid valley is located due east of the Alpine city of Bolzano. The valley is surrounded by the magnificent flat-topped Dolomites, which soar above picturesque resorts and Pradezzo is the first village that you enter. The village has plenty of walks and cable cars operate in summer to make your journey easy - even for the worst lazy bones!

The area is quite breathtaking and words fail to impart the beauty of the region. The valley is also a turn off point to the equally enchanting Valley di Fassa- so that the area is excellent choice to enjoy both areas which are within easy reach. Lake Garda in the south is reached by autostrada within one hour and Innsbruck is about the same driving time.

View from the Dolokites

The green and fertile valleys of the region are centred around the peaks of Mountt Marmolada, which reaches a height of over 10,000 feet above sea level. However most of the resorts lie at about 3000 feet above sea level and allow and warm summers with fresh alpine and ozone friendly air. Splendid walking opportunities and a wonderful mix of mountain cuisine such as air-dried hams, trout along with pasta and tradionial alpine cheeses. The red wines of the Alto Adigi are much praised in Italy for the light and perfumed character. Could one ask for more?

Predazzo

The village is at about 1000 metres above sea level and offers plenty of activities that include a riding school, mountain bike rentals, trekking, alpine walks and even miniature golf for light relief. It is also easy to reach of mountain railway of Alpi Cermis. The town offers 13 restaurants, shops, three wine bars and ice cream parlours-plenty of shops, which include three supermarkets.

In the locality are several sports centres, indoor swimming pools and at nearby Cavalese (5km) an indoor ice rink. Equal distance is the national park of Panevegsin, which offers a visitors centre and museum.

Apart Hotel Majestic

A four star type quality hotel which offers a covered swimming pool, a mini club for children (30/06 - 01/09) Sauna sun bed room and a children’s playroom.

Other facilities include a restaurant / pizzeria, lift to all floors, laundry room, a garden area with sun beds etc and parking plus a garage. Only 400 yards walk from the centre and ideal location for restaurants bars etc.

ST4 – large studio units with a fully fitted kitchen, telephone, Sat-TV room safe. Has a double bed and also two bunk beds. Bathroom with shower WC. Balcony - Has over 30 sq metres of floor space so lots of room just for two with perhaps a child.

Lovely dazzling white painted hotel nestling in the valley some 3km from Tesaro and 9km from Predazzo. An ultra quiet location immersed in greenery with walking trails leading directly from the hotel.

Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, sauna, massage facilities and health farm. A restaurant, Tyrol style bar, separate pub and lift to all floors. Facilities locally include tennis, trekking accomapied, mountain bike and rafting. There is also a children’s activities club.

Only 500 metres from the resort centre with selection of restaurants, shops and several mini markets.Tesero is 9km from Predazzo. The apartments with geranium clad balconies is an ideal tranquil spot having panoramic mountain views and yet within walking distance of the village centre.

Trentino Altopiano di Folgaria

At 1100 metres above sea level this delight area is on almost on a plateau and is ideal for walking, Nordic walking trails, mountain biking, tennis, nine-hole golf course, one discotec, shopping for some of the local specialties, which include cheese and wine. Then there is lake Levico and its spa facilities. There are mountain restaurants and lastly history – for during the First World War fortresses were built to keep out the Italian armies. At Lavarone there is a fortress museum and some fascinating walkways.

The other attraction is the former Austrian city of Trentino, which is just 20 minutes drive away with many parks and lots of shopping possibilities. In addition within the same driving distance are the resorts of Riva and Torbole on the shores of Lake Garda. A region, which offers a great mixture of mountains and lakes.

Alpi Club Residence
Folgaria

Located just outside the town of Folgaria and only 500 yards from shops, restaurants and bars these Alpine style apartments have panoramic views across meadowland. The facilities include a games room. Table tennis. Also mountain bike rental (deposit required), tennis and bowl pitches.

It is possible to have use of the indoor pool at Alaska apartments.

Type T6 sleep 4/5: These two bedroomed apartments have a separate entrance into a living room having a corner kitchenette A double sofa bed is available. One bedroom with double bed and the other with two single beds OR bunk beds. If type of beds is important do tell us! One full bathroom.

Alaska Residence

Alpine style building, which is in the centre of Folgaria in a quiet location, which offers various apartments each with a balcony.

Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a games room with table tennis, children’s playground area. Mountain bike trails from 50-100km in length. Walking paths lead from the Residence.

Important: there is a charge of 20 euros per week and 10 euros per child 3-10 years. This covers energy costs, bed linen and bath towels. Clients are expected to leave the apartment as found or there is a cleaning charge
