1. Orlando: is located more or less in the centre of Florida. It is the location of the Walt Disney World Resort. Kissimmee is very close by.

2. Clearwater: Clearwater is just 70 miles from Orlando on the shores of the Mexican Gulf - Clearwater Beach itself is a very upmarket - but very busy resort full of quality restaurants and some very expensive and rather exclusive high rise apartments to the south of the resort. Some 15 miles south is Indian Rocks which is one of three resorts which are now connected together.

More down to earth than Clearwater Beach, the area of Indian Rocks is mostly small low rise apartment buildings all of which have direct access to the beach of fine white sand and they all have swimming pools exclusive to residents. There is a wide choice of restaurants that stretch along the main road leading to Clearwater. Although the choice of supermarkets is limited to family owner shopping - you would need to travel about 5 miles inland for Tesco style offers.

It will be very busy in the high season of July/August-but it is very popular as it is close to Orlando and the many theme parks and offers the sea breezes as well. It is an ideal area to add an extra week or less stay on the beach or even as an alternative to staying in Orlando as it only takes about 90 minutes drive to Disney World.

3. Naples / Marco / Estero / Sanibal Islands: Located on the south-west coast of Florida directly onto the Gulf of Mexico. This is a totally different style from most of Florida - very well planned and large advertising signs hoardings disappear as you drive to the area-Naples has such tight planning laws that one has to look hard at the side of the roads to even find a petrol filling station as trade names are limited to five feet high from ground level. For example - McDonalds famous arches almost disappear from view. (no bad thing some would say!)

Landscaping is part of the scene and lawns and flower beds and palm trees are in abundance along the road sides leading to beaches and hotels. Planning is also strict for Shopping Malls which are single story-well laid out and rather up-market shops. This is the part of Florida which in winter becomes millionaire's row - as there are many exclusive villas with large pools which are built behind secure electronic gates.

In summer, the rich tend to move to more climatic regions and then the area is ideal as it offers the best beaches in the States - fine dazzling white sand which stretches for a hundred miles. Clear warm seas that reach 85 degrees in summer - but you need to be aware that humidity is high and with mid day temperatures reaching 100 degrees you will need your sun hat!

In short, a very elegant region which comes as a lovely surprise after the more shocking commercialism of central Florida and Miami. We would strongly suggest adding this area for at least a five night duration to any staying in the Orlando area. All our properties with two exceptions are directly onto the fine sand beaches. We have visited them all and they are high quality and in many cases luxury properties in exclusive areas of this region.
