Italian Riviera:

Getting there; there are a number of options.

Clearly the nearest airport is Genoa - however only direct flights seem to be with Ryan Air from Stansted and Air One from London City.

Next, comes Pisa with departures from many airports including East Midlands, Coventry, London Gatwick, Stansted and others.

Milan is the last Italian option into Linate with fast Autostrada route south to the region - departures from Manchester, Birmingham, London airports and Stansted

Nice has plenty of direct flights from Stansted, East Midlands, Birmingham, London Gatwick and Heathrow - however it is the furthest if your chosen resort is beyond Genoa.

From all arrival airports there are fast autostrada links to the region. For those just wishing to stay without a car we can organise transfers from Genoa – however the costs are around £45 per car one-way just to Rapallo.

Rapallo

This is an ideal resort if you intend to visit Portifino - it is close by and has a unique charm of its own although Portofino has more glamour - it is very, very expensive.

In contrast whilst Rapallo has its own well developed plush hotels it also has a bevy of narrow cobbled streets behind the façade where a full-scale local market is held every Thursday. There is also a large choice of restaurants and trattorias in the old town area. Writers such as Hemingway have stayed in the town and waxed lyrically about the beauty of the bay and the sunsets.

In the hills behind the resort are footpaths and the local tourist office provides maps and for those with a leisurely disposition there is a cable car that climbs to the top.

Hotel Europa
(Handicapped friendly)

This pink palace of a hotel stands overlooking the sea only 50 yards walk away in the historical centre of the town just in front of the old castle and the original building dates back to the 17th century. A lovely old style hotel, which has some sixty rooms. Each room offers air conditioning, double-glazing, Satellite-TV, a Mini bar and an en-suite bathroom complete with hair dryer.

Several of the bedrooms are designed for the handicapped. Lift to all floors.

The hotel facilities include: pleasant gardens with shady pagodas, comfy chairs with parasols and bar service to the terrace.Complimentary fitness room sauna and whirlpool. Beach facilities at special rates. Tennis courts, mini-golf and a 18 hole golf course facilities are available within 2km.

Hotel Bristol
(Handicapped friendly)

A lovely four-star hotel, which overlooks the bay of Rapallo and only 150 yards from the sea and beach. The hotel is on the outskirts of the resort and the centre being 2.5km away and is a good walk along the sea front.

Breakfast can be taken on the terrace and buffet lunch can be taken by the swimming pool. On the rooftop is a garden with a restaurant offering panoramic views-very romantic – payment made directly.The main restaurant is on the ground floor, which offers a three-course menu with salad buffet.

In addition, a bar and gardens with bar service. A sea-water swimming pool (25x12 metres) and complete with chairs, loungers and sun umbrellas.

Beach services at special rates.Mini golf at just 300 metres – tennis at 3km. Three lifts to all floors.

Free parking (subject to availability) garage 15 euros daily.

Hotel Park Castello
Finale Ligure

This charming three star hotel is located a short 200 yards walk from the sea and the town centre in a quiet residential centre. With views of the sea from the terrace and gardens you can enjoy a pre dinner drink. No restaurant but there are several within 300 yards.

The gardens also include a 12x5 metre swimming pool that has a children’s shallow part and is open from Easter to the end of the season and also offers sun loungers and parasols. Table tennis and also private beach facilities at special rates (about 5-7 euros pp per day)

The rooms are plain but offer air conditioning from June to September and also Satellite-TV and hairdryer in the en suite bathrooms. Breakfast is buffet style but with a good selection of breads, cold ham, cheese, yoghurts etc. Free parking and guarded

Parking is possible but charged for at around 7 euros daily.

Note: Seven nights minimum stay EXCEPT up 16th June and after 1st September when the minimum is three nights.

Arrival can be any day.

Hotel Florenz
Finale Ligure

This three star hotel was formally a monastery and is in a quiet position about a 100 yards from the historical centre of Finalborgo and 1km from the centre of Finale Marina - sadly too far to walk to the beach with is about 1.5km distant.

The hotels offers several grades of rooms we have chosen the middle grade Priore rooms which offer as part of the price, bathrobes, mini bar, Satellite-TV and en suite bathrooms with hairdryer. Prices are based on half board which is a buffet style breakfast with a three course menu offered for dinner plus a salad buffet the meal also includes water wine and soft drinks at diner.

Outside is a large swimming pool-not heated but complete with sun loungers, umbrellas. There are private beach facilities at reduced rates. Mountain and normal bike rental from 7 euros daily.

Public rooms include several lounges, a TV room bar, lift, outside a children’s playground and there is also a free shuttle bus to the beach twice daily (June-Sept)

Moneglia

An ideal resort about 35km west of La Spezia - which is sheltered in a calm bay with no real through road and with superb sea views. East access to Portifino

A family resort very laid back with castles and manor houses along a traditional promenade. The resort is on the edge of the famous Cinque Terra region which is an isolated region of terraced vineyards that lead down to the sea. Some lovely other tiny villages to visit such as Varnazza with access only by boat or train. The beaches of Moneglia are exceptionally clean and get the Blue Flag symbol for excellent swimming. Lots to see and do which includes excursions up and down the coastline as well as the mountains the overlook the region.

Hotel Leopold

A delightful position for this three star hotel, which has a panoramic position and has a stair way (60 steps) down to the centre. Lovely views and fantastic sunsets make this a hotel to remember. We would suggest you pay the extra four euros per person and take a room with side or full seas view. Restricted parking is charged at 5 euros daily.

The facilities include a delightful swimming pool with sea views with a children’s section. Mountain bike rental (5 euros daily) Pleasant restaurant offering a breakfast buffet and diner in the evening, which offers three courses plus a desert trolley nice touch is the welcome drink with a free glass of wine from the Cinque terra vineyards.

The bedrooms all have en suite bathrooms with hairdryer. All have Satellite-TV and telephone.
