Green Spain - a coastline that runs from the French border past the superb fine sand beaches of San Sebastian to Bilbao. Whilst inland are the wide open spaces of Navarra, and the hills and vineyards of the famous Rioja wines. Part of the area is in the infamous Basque region constantly at odds over independence by separatists – however away from San Sebastian there is very little risk to tourists.

Getting There

Direct ferry aboard the 25,000 ton P&O Ferry Bilbao, it takes two days from Portsmouth to Bilbao. Not cheap but for a fortnight will be cheaper than fly drive – and you have your own more comfortable vehicle.

Flights with Iberia from Heathrow to Bilbao, or via Madrid from Manchester and Birmingham – but you will need a car – see rentals below. For Flight prices see below.
