Think of Sicily and your next thought is probably Mafia but the holiday maker can rarely find evidence of their existence..... but it all adds a little spice to visiting this volcanic island, the largest in the Med, which, as D.H. Lawrence explained "I like Sicily - just one hop and you are out of Europe."
For the food is more spicy, the wine heady with the heat of the sun and the architecture is mixed from the Moorish style to those constructed by the Norman dukes.
A very mixed history from the Greeks with 8th century B.C., Romans, Arabs, French and Spanish who were all invaders - which has produced styles and a cuisine quite different from the rest of Italy.
On this page we cover Cefalù on the north coast of the island .

Cefalù: Pretty coastline partly rocky and several large fine sandy beaches Our local agent can arrange boat trips, offer restaurant suggestions and guided tours. Small sleepy resort with essential shops and a super market, a quality beach side restaurant and several pizzerias. Several discos in high season only.

This is a private estate with full security, that has direct access to a huge beach of fine rather grey, rather than golden, sand – but great for sand castles. Very large swimming pool and children's pool – but only in July and August.
We have some 12 properties available here, and being individually owned, each has a different layout and furnishings. There are built of local sandstone and granite – all within walking distance of the sea and 5km from Cefalù.
Type A (Montante) sleeps 4: Terraced house (one of three) with pleasant gardens front and rear. Large living room with easy chairs and a side kitchenette which has four hot rings, oven and fridge freezer. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with twin beds and the other with a double bed.

Type A2 (Traficante) sleeps 4: An apartment with full air conditioning on two floors. On the ground floor is a living room and small kitchenette with four hot rings, oven and fridge. Stairs lead to the first floor with a double and a twin bedroom – the twin has a sloping roof, but is fine for children. Two bathrooms, one with shower and WC, the other with bath, shower over, and WC Windows all have fly screens. Compact apartment, but good quality with a large outside garden/patio area.
Type C (Spinato) sleeps 6/8: Semi detached villa with a large living room, a kitchen with four hot plates and an oven, laundry room with washing machine.

On the first floor is a double bedroom with en suite bathroom having shower and WC On the lower ground floor is a second bathroom with shower, WC, and two bedrooms – one double and one twin. In addition, is a double sofa bed in the lounge.
Lots of space, although the garden is rather small compared to the house. However, with a super beach nearby this is no real disadvantage.
In short, a quiet scenic area with close proximity to the beach.
Drawback: the swimming pool is only available 15 July to end August.

SENIA BEACH (Sleeps 5)

A small estate of just eight semi detached houses all newly built. well equipped and well furnished, in an ideal situation with direct access to the beach (about 300 metres). A very rural and quiet location accessed down winding narrow lanes, well away from traffic or rail noise and about 8 km from Cefalù.
Inside each house is a good sized living room with french windows onto a tiled terrace with side views of the sea. The kitchen has an oven and four hot plates and has access on to the terrace. The downstairs shower room has a WC and a washing machine installed, and there's a double bed room with wardrobes on the ground floor.
Upstairs is a twin bedroom and a single, plus a second bathroom with bath, shower attachment, WC and washbasin. Stairs lead to the roof, with views of the mountains and to the sea.
Drawbacks: Hard to find any, except the narrow approach lanes. Otherwise a perfect location, with ideal access to the sandy beach and the sea.
CEFALÙ APARTMENTS (SLEEP 2/3) If you like tons of atmosphere living in the centre of an original fortress town with walls of properties dating back centuries, then this is ideal. Also ideal for night life lovers, as most restaurants rarely shut before the early morning hours. TYPE A (FOR 2/3) All these apartments are individually owned, so the following description is only a guide. Most are first floor with steep narrow staircases to a living room with modern kitchenette having hot plates - but often no oven. There's a double bedroom and a bathroom with shower, WC and washbasin. An extra sofa bed is available in the lounge. |

VILLAS FONTANA BARONE - Cefalù Some 5km from Cefalù, this small development of 14 luxury houses overlooks a superb swimming pool and well landscaped gardens of lawns and olive trees. A lot of thought has gone into the layout of these semi detached houses which have a very original outdoor kitchen area measuring some 14ft x 10ft, complete with a traditional stone barbecue as well as a four ring gas hob and sink unit. Designed for outdoor living complete with patio furniture and shady terrace. Another feature is the daily cleaning service which is included in the rental. As for the houses, each has a large living room with TV and video recorder, and a second kitchen with four hot plates (no oven), and fridge freezer and a bathroom with shower and WC They are well furnished throughout, are fully air conditioned and have an alarm system and wall safe. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one double and one twin and a second WC with washbasin. A fifth bed is available in the lounge area on the ground floor - a comfortable single sofa bed. Great quality, lovely pool with life guard, and a club house area with open bar. Lots of garden furniture and a laundry room is available with washer and dryer. The apartments are not far from the single track railway line, but there are no trains between 23.00 and 06.00 hrs and they are hardly noticeable during the day time. The beach is about 600 yards away. |

Coast Apartments - Cefalù These rather simple apartments are in a superb position overlooking a small bay with a sand and rock beach below. Those at the top have the best views and easy access, those at the bottom are by the beach but there are an awful lot of steps to climb to the car park! All have a huge terrace of about 20 ft x 15 ft with patio furniture – an ideal outdoor living area overlooking the sea. Each has a rather basic kitchen with a four ring cooker and oven, a laundry sink and a fridge freezer. The living room has two single sofa beds, there is one bedroom with a double or twin beds, and a bathroom with shower, WC and washbasin. Quality is mediocre but the position and outdoor living and beach access makes up for the lack of comfort. There’s a walking path to the centre of Cefalù (about 2 km). Warning: Some of the apartment balconies do have a small gap on the inside edge and would not be suitable for young children! There are units without this drawback, so please ask for advice. |

Il Patio Bungalows - Cefalù Located about 4km from the centre of Cefalù, this is a new development of pleasant bungalows (24 in total). They overlook a sunny pool (open 01/06 to 20/09) and have a clubhouse with children’s playground, table tennis and a TV/card room. There is direct access to a sandy beach 350 metres walk away, though the sea is less than 150 metres away. Well designed gardens and landscaped so that each bungalow is in a green environment. Quality furnishings but the owners clearly don’t expect holiday makers to be cooking very much. Plus points are the large pool and the air-conditioning. Drawback: The railway line is about 200 metres away. However, there are no trains between 23.00 and 06.00 hrs, and past clients say that the passing trains go un-noticed during the day. Type A sleeps 2/4: Semi detached bungalows with a large terrace area and patio furniture. The living room has a double sofa bed and a kitchenette with two hot rings and fridge freezer. One double bedroom and bathroom with boxed shower, WC and washbasin. Good quality furnishings, but rather functional interior. Air conditioning available if required (payable locally). Type B sleeps 4/5: As type A but with an extra twin bedroom and a second bathroom with shower/WC

Selona 1 - Cefalù
From the exterior – not impressive. You then climb ancient lava steps to the first floor where an equally old vine rambles over the entrance. Inside a pleasant modern interior makes a good impression, and more so when opening the living room windows onto a small but usable balcony with a magnificent view of the sea. Ideal for a couple or a small family, the living room offers a large double sofa bed, a table and chairs, and a very modern kitchenette with four hot rings, electric oven and fridge. There’s one good sized bedroom with a double bed, and the bathroom has boxed shower, wc and washbasin. High quality, in an exceptional position and about 250 metres walk from the centre. Nearest beach is about 400 metres away. Parking on the street. |

Apartments Pinetina - Cefalù
Ideal for a couple or a small family, the apartments are quite simple but clean and functional. Each has a good sized balcony overlooking a simple garden area of grasses, cacti and pine trees. Individual entrance to a living room with a double sofa bed, table and chairs, and modern kitchenette with four hot rings (no oven) fridge freezer. There’s a separate double bedroom and a bathroom with shower and wc.
