Self - drive car tour of the island

A tour of unknown Sicily that offers guests the opportunity to live like locals in farmhouses and guesthouses (many with pools) in four different regions of the largest island in the Mediterranean. We can offer bed and breakfast or half board – the only catch is that you must stay at least three nights in each property.

We have mapped out a four point tour that takes in almost the whole island over 14 nights. However, subject to availability, the tour can be tailored to your needs.

A tour can start in Catania and return from Catania or from Palermo and end in Palermo.

NOTE: If you wish to stay at either Fattoria Mose in Agrigento or Da Camillo Estate in Castellamare del Golfo but do not wish to tour the island then we have included their rates in our descriptions below.

YOUR SELF - DRIVE 14 DAY TOUR FROM CATANIA

Nights 1 - 4

Collect your air conditioned car, then drive 60km to stay for your first four nights in Farmhouse La Perciata, situated close to Syracuse. All rooms have shower and WC and breakfast is included.

LA PERCIATA SIRACUSE

A four star quality farmhouse in the heart of the countryside, yet only 6km from the fine sand beaches of Fontane Bianche and 15km from the ancient historical city of Syracuse with its Greek and Roman Amphitheatre and island of Ortygia.

Well maintained house and gardens with a lovely swimming pool surrounded by palm and orange trees. There are two good sized bedrooms in the original farmhouse and two apartments each with two bedrooms, bathroom, living room, kitchen and large balcony; the apartments are normally rented only for 7 night stays, but include breakfast in the weekly price. In addition, are five bedrooms in a converted stable block each with a terrace outside and an en suite bathroom of course. All are fully air-conditioned.

Nights 5 - 7

The drive from Siracuse is a pleasant one, as you skirt the coastline, passing the medieval towns of Noto and Ragusa on the 200 km drive to Agrituristica Mose.

FATTORIA MOSE, AGRIGENTO

Six apartments located in a former stable block adjacent to the owner’s manor house, on a large arable farm of some 150 acres. Just 4km from the Valley of the Temples – the collection of Greek temples, some in remarkable condition, date back to 400 AD.

One of the apartments sleeps six persons in two bedrooms and has two bathrooms, the other five have a lounge, separate bedroom and bathroom and sleep 2/3 persons. No airconditioning.

Outside are quiet terraces with outdoor furniture and there is also a charming lounge for the use of guests.

Fattoria Mose

ALTERNATIVE ACCOMMODATION: As an alternative, we can offer accommodation at Farmhouse Montalbano, Sciacca which is a further 60km north west of Agrigento.

This property offers a range of self catering accommodation on a weekly basis, BUT they also offer double rooms on a Bed & Breakfast per night basis.

Nights 8 - 10

A long drive along the western coastline to reach Farmhouse da Camillo, situated near to the lovely Cap San Vito and not far from the medieval town of Erice. Accommodation is in a spacious one bedroomed apartment, complete with kitchen and bathroom.

DA CAMILLO ESTATE, CASTELLAMARE DEL GOLFO, TRAPANI PROVINCE

This is situated high on the slopes of Mount Sparagio with fantastic panoramic views of the sea and landscape which almost gives the main reason for staying here. About 1km from the Baida Castle, this large farm offers only apartments, each with one bedroom, a living room, bathroom and small kitchenette. However, cooking is not necessary as the price includes breakfast, the farm has a large restaurant, and unbelievably within a 100 yard walk in this remote area, is another restaurant and pizzeria – so competition is fierce.

Less than 5 minutes from the beaches, the pretty village of Scopello, and the walking trails of the Zingaro National Park, and 30 minutes drive to the spectacular Cap St Vincent and mediaeval town of Erice.

Nights 11 - 14

Stay your last four nights at the Santa Margherita farmstead in the province of Messina. All bedrooms are with en suite bathrooms. The views from the farm gardens of the Lipari volvanic islands are outstanding.

SANTA MARGHERITA FARM (MASSINA REGION)

This lovely farm overlooks the sea and the distant volcanic Lipari Islands and offers accommodation as well as a large restaurant, which is popular with locals at weekends. Lovely rural setting the farm is only about 20 minutes drive away from Milazzo from where the ferries depart to the islands and a great idea is to take a day excursion. Sandy beaches are within ten minutes driving time from the farmhouse.

The gardens of palms and banana trees make for a pleasant area to relax and the owners offer mountain bikes for rental, table- tennis, tennis courts, horse riding facilities and even archery.

The farm has 13 bedrooms all with en suite bathrooms, balcony and terrace most with sea views. About 500 yards away is a separate granite building, which has four apartments – ideal for a family with two bedrooms, a kitchen and one bathroom. One room is suitable for the handicapped.

Evening meals can be reserved if required and breakfast is included into our rates.

A 180 km drive via the autostrada will bring you to Catania airport where you will return your car and head for home..

SINGLE ROOM SUPPLIMENT - 22 euros per night

The above prices are per person sharing an air conditioned Punto 1.2 3-door car. The rate includes room and breakfast for 14 nights in a room with with a shower and WC.

Flights are NOT included. Flights to Catania / Palermo start from £199 (plus taxes) from Gatwick, £255 (plus taxes) from Manchester and £209 (plus taxes) from Heathrow. OR, Ryanair offer flights to Palermo from Stansted.

If 3 people are travelling, rates are based on a triple room. Single room supplements available on request.

Car hire is strictly for 14 days – any extra time will be charged at an EXTRA rate of 38 euros per day (PER CAR – not per person!)

Larger cars: If you would like a larger car then there will be a daily supplement per car (NOT per person) as in the following exmples:

All rates fully inclusive of any damage excess unlimited mileage etc- in short no extra costs!!
