This still exists and there are plenty of bars offering drinks at reasonable prices but this should not deter anyone from staying in the resort being one of the larger resorts within the” Milky Way”, Sauze is in an ideal spot having access to nearly 400km of runs. Restaurants and bars offer good value and the skiing possibilities are almost endless and offer all good facilities for all grades. Restaurants on and off the snow are decent and inexpensive. An attractive old town centre adds value to your stay. The real advantage of the resort is its train connection directs to Turin central rail station particularly the old centre. However, it is also a useful resort for fly drive as motorways extend from Turin and Genoa to with 28km before going on normal roads. Ski Holidays in Italy - Sestrière ![]() This prime Italian ski resort is situated within the province of Piedmont and is less than 100km. drive away from Turin which is the prime arrival point for flights from the UK. The resort attracts thousands of tourists each year who are keen on enjoying the many winter activities which are available throughout the Via Lattea valley or otherwise know as the “Milky Way” which connects with several French resorts. Ski pass costs for 2009 are estimated at £110 less our hotel offer of 8% if booked at the same time as the hotel. Further details click on Ski Passes Located at 2,035 metres (6,700 feet) the resort and its ski runs are at altitudes of between 1,350 and 2,800 metres. The resort is comprised of four hamlets (Sestrière Colle, Sestrière Borgata, Champlas du col and Champlas Janvier), where many of the hotels allow one to get to the lifts and slopes on their skis. ![]() The station was built in the 1930's, and is familiar for its two large towers which have become a local landmark. These towers, like the station itself, were built by the Agnelli family the owners of the Italian car giant FIAT Sestriere boasts approximately one hundred downhill runs, and guaranteed great snow . There are many artificial snowmakers which add to the already ideal winter conditions. The 2006 Winter Olympic Games of Turin were held here and each year many , world cup downhill ski events are held here. Ski enthusiasts looking for variety in should remember that Sestriere is also part of the Via Lattea (Milky Way) valley, with neighbouring stations like Claviere, Sansicario and Montgenèvre (a French station). All this gives you 400 kilometres of skiing and some 80 ski lifts. ![]() Sestriere also features a lot of other types of winter activity such as dog-sledding and snowmobiles. On site, you will easily find ski lessons and ski rental stores should you need them. During the summer months, the resort is also a busy destination, especially thanks to its golf course which is the highest altitude 18 hole course in Europe. One can drive to Sestriere by taking the A32 motorway (Torino-Bardonecchia-Frejus), exit Oulx, then Turin. Although you may need to rent a car for the week ![]() Hotel Ski Club Sestriere The three star Ski Club Hotel is located almost in the centre of Sestriere (about 550 yards walk and the nearest lifts are about the same distance although the ski bus stops almost facing the hotel (50 yards) for the central lift areas of the village with two other ski bus services that connect with the Garnel, Principe and Fraiteve lifts just 350 yards away. All rooms are studio style with balcony, TV, telephone, en suite bathroom and the larger units which sleep four are ideal for families. M2 types are for two persons with twin or double beds M3 are for 3 persons with double bed and one single bed M4 these can sleep four persons and offer a twin beds or a double bed and bunk beds in an alcove. Downstairs there is a restaurant, a bar, lounge area, TV room. Lift to all floors. Garage (payable at 8 euros per 24 hours) with the ski bus to Colle Sestriere only 50 yards walk from the hotel. Irritating is the obligatory charge of 30 euros per person which has to be paid direct to the hotel and offers evening entertainment ski excursions and a mini club for children 3 years and upwards which offers activities for children from 0930 to 1200 hours daily and from 15.30 to 17 30 hours each day. ![]() Grand Hotel Principi di Piemonte A classic hotel that was first built back in 1932 and has a lovely exterior with spires and turrets that harks back to a more elegant period that perhaps our present times………. In the centre of fashionable Sestriere a resort which at which at 2,035 metres high offers great skiing opportunities from December to April over a wide area. Central location and you can walk to the centre just 500 yards away and almost directly on the piste Via Lattea or the” Milky Way” as it has become known in English. ![]() The hotel has an indoor swimming pool, a large Jacuzzi, a ballroom, a piano bar and an underground garage. ALSO internet points and very near to the resort ski school, make this hotel a good choice for those wanting to almost ski to lifts and be in the centre of the resort. Bedrooms are modern with heat and air conditioning and come complete with TV DVD player and telephone. Each has a Mini-bar and en-suite bathrooms. The standard rooms are more simple and smaller with the new bedrooms, which are ultra modern style and are deemed superior rooms. However all have a terrace. Restaurant: Prices are based on half board with buffet style breakfast and diner is three courses which includes. Special evenings: are offered with a buffet “piemonteses” and includes wine and grappa after diner drink. Only drawback is that there is a charge of 30 euros re "Tessera Club"for anyone over 12 years per week paid directly to the hotel, which then in return offers musical evenings, bus service and some idro-massages treatments.
